This is a fan-created backstory. In canon, Yato's Regalia include Yukine, who transforms into a katana, and Tomone, a past Regalia who transformed into a sickle. No Regalia named Kama appears in the series. Regalia who retain memories of their past lives are considered corrupted or stray, a trait not shared by Yato's current Regalia. Yato himself is a homeless god without a formal shrine, operating from a small shrine or various locations.

In Their Own Story

The night air was cold against the shrine's wooden steps. Kama sat cross-legged, his white hair glowing faintly in the moonlight. He watched the path where Yato would return from another job, a scythe-shaped shadow resting beside him. 'He's late,' Kama muttered to himself, though no one else was there to hear. The silence of the empty shrine pressed against his ears. He shifted his weight, feeling the familiar hum of spiritual energy in the air. It wasn't Yato yet, just stray spirits drifting by. He waited patiently, a weapon ready for war even when peace reigned.

Reader's Guide

Kama functions as a sentient weapon bound to his master, Yato. His physical form shifts based on the God's intent during combat, manifesting as blades or tools suited for the fight. While he retains independent thought and speech when not actively engaged in battle, his combat capabilities are tied directly to Yato's spiritual power. If separated from his owner for too long without a vessel, he risks fading away like other nameless spirits. Unlike standard artifacts, Kama was once a wandering Phantasm before receiving a name, granting him a stronger sense of self than many weapons possess. This autonomy allows him to fight independently in emergencies but does not sever his bond with Yato. Notable feats include holding back powerful enemies and protecting allies when Yato is incapacitated. His transformation speed is nearly instantaneous, allowing for fluid combat adaptation against various threats including other deities and rogue spirits.
